Georgia/South Carolina Cup

March 16 to March 17, 2018 Hosted by River Bluff High @ Spartanburg, SC

The purpose of this GHSA and SCHSL-sanctioned event is four-fold. The event offers invited schools from the state of Georgia a rare opportunity to compete against the high-caliber golf teams that play in the state of South Carolina. Secondly, this event, now entering its fourteenth year, generates an invigorating competitive atmosphere due to the pride and sense of responsibility players have in representing their home state. At the same time, the event also encourages the very best of sportsmanship and golfing etiquette among competitors. Thirdly, the tournament serves as a showcase of some of the best high school talent in the Southeast, and it is a great forum in which to recognize such an abundance of skill. Finally, the tournament is a nationally-ranked event with the Junior Golf Scoreboard organization. The player with the lowest individual score wins recognition as the tournament medalist along with ownership of the Low Medalist’s trophy. The school that holds the lowest aggregate 36-hole score, using the South Carolina High School League’s format of counting the best four of five competitors, is named the team champion for the event and will receive the School Championship trophy. However, the truly unique aspect of this tournament will be the competition between the states of Georgia and South Carolina. The lowest twelve 36-hole scores from each state will be counted toward a state total. These scores may come from any of the forty-five eligible competitors in each state’s field. The state with the lowest aggregate score will then become the Georgia-South Carolina Cup State Champion for the next year and will be given possession of the perpetual Cup Trophy until the next event.
